Why get cl33n?
cl33n is...

clean:	cl33n is virus and spyware resistant. Most viruses and other nasties are written for Windows. cl33n is based on Linux so it's incompatible with almost all virus and spyware programs. If you're using cl33n and you think you might have picked up something nasty, you can safely and quickly clean your computer by simply restarting it. cl33n doesn't make any changes to your computer so every time you restart cl33n it's like starting it for the first time.
personal:	cl33n helps you to browse the web safely from any computer. cl33n doesn't touch the computer's hard disk so when you restart the computer all your browsing history, passwords and cookies are erased. So for example you can use cl33n to access your internet banking or webmail account from any computer. You know that when you start cl33n there are no spyware programs running and when you're finished you know that you haven't left any traces of your password or emails on the computer.

How is cl33n made? Is it reliable?
cl33n is built using Debian Linux and Debian Live. The web browser is Mozilla Firefox. The window manager is Matchbox. Linux a leading operating system for reliable Web servers worldwide and Debian is one of the most stable and reliable distributions. Debian Live is a build system for making Live CDs such as cl33n. With cl33n you can take advantage of Liunx's reliability & safety and still use Windows when you restart your computer again.

What about applications? If cl33n only supports web browsing, isn't that a bit limiting?
It's true that in cl33n you can't save any files to the disk or use "normal" applications and in the old days that would have been very limiting. But now there are so many exciting web applications that you can do almost anything with cl33n! You can edit documents, send emails and instant messages, even use whole operating systems running inside your browser! Check out the resources page for more.

What is the license for cl33n?
cl33n is open source software licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2. So you a free to modify and redistribute cl33n as long as your modifications are also open source. Check the full license itself for more information.

Why did you make cl33n?
I work one day a week for a charity-run community centre in Sydney, Australia. The community centre has an internet cafe with a severe virus and spyware problem. I was looking for a Linux Live CD that is very easy to use. I tried lots of great Live CDs that I thought would work out well at the centre. Unfortunately they didn't work out. Some were not compatible with the video cards in the centre's computers. Some were not intuitive enough for people who were beginner Windows-only users. Some were painfully slow on the centre's computers. Some would work great only if they were started up in a special way...and most of the time there was not a technical person around to help start up and reboot the computers there. I loved all the Live CDs that I tried but for one reason or another I couldn't use them at the centre. cl33n is designed to be minimalist, simple, fast and compatible. It just does web browsing- that's all.
